Skin aging is unavoidable for every adult, but many adults don’t realize they can fight back against the aging process with the help of the right physician. Vampire Facial Q & A

by James Meyer, MD

What causes the signs of aging?

As your skin ages, it produces less collagen and elastin. This causes the skin to grow looser and lose elasticity. It also makes you more likely to develop fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, nose, and mouth. In addition, blood flow decreases with age, which causes your skin to become dull and/or gray over time.

What is a Vampire Facial?

A Vampire Facial is a revolutionary procedure designed to improve the appearance of your face. It’s the ideal option for patients who don’t want to undergo more invasive procedures, such as injections or surgery. It uses your own blood plasma to make your face youthful again.

How does it work?

The Vampire Facial works by creating tiny punctures in the skin to improve absorption. Isolated growth factors from your own blood are painted onto the skin, where they stimulate the skin to tighten and produce more collagen. After this procedure, you’ll enjoy taut skin with a more natural, vibrant color and a younger looking appearance.

What should patients expect?

During a Vampire Facial, the doctor takes some of the blood from your arm and runs it through a centrifuge to isolate the platelet-rich plasma. Next, they use a micro-needling device to make small punctures all over the skin on your face. Finally, the doctor paints the isolated platelet-rich plasma onto your skin, where it can be absorbed into the deeper tissues.

When is the Vampire Facial appropriate?

You may benefit from the Vampire Facial if you want a more youthful appearance but you aren’t comfortable with more invasive procedures, such as injectable dermal fillers or an actual facelift. However, it’s important to understand that this option isn’t right for everyone. If you want more dramatic results, other options, such as the Vampire Facelift, may be better for you. The staff at South Texas Women’s Health & Medical Spa can help you decide which service is best for your needs.

How soon will results appear?

After the Vampire Facial, you may notice some results right away. However, your skin continues to improve for the next two to three months. In most cases, results last up to two years.
